Does United Way Dixie support local Boy Scouts of America organizations?

Yes we do. Although the Boy Scout program does not ask United Way Dixie for funding, we have designations that are given to local troops and the Utah chapter through our local Boy Scout office.

United Way Dixie remains a strong supporter of Boy Scouts of America Virgin River and Snow Canyon Councils.

Isn't there a nationwide trend for area United Ways to discontinue funding the Boy Scouts?

Of the 1,400 local United Way groups around the country, only about 25 have elected to stop funding their local Boy Scouts organization. The decision of United Way Dixie to continue funding local Boy Scouts programs is completely unaffected by any action taken in other parts of the country.

There isn't a United Way policy toward the funding of the Boy Scouts. The trade association, United Way of America, does not dictate policy or funding decisions to any of the 1,400 United Ways. Each local United Way is independently governed by its own Board of Directors.

Are donations used responsibly?

100% of your personal donation to United Way Dixie stays in our community to deliver long-lasting results that matter for our neighbors in need. That's possible thanks to our Cornerstone Partners: 18 corporations and foundations that trust United Way so much that they underwrite our administrative expenses.

Where does my donation go?

An undesignated gift is distributed among United Way Dixie's local agency partners. United Way allocation review teams determine the amount each agency partner receives. The review teams evaluate how well the agency's proposed programs impact critical needs.

Wasn't there a scandal several years ago?

Yes, in 1992 the former president of United Way's trade association was implicated in the misuse of that organization's funds. United Way of America was cleared of any wrongdoing, but he was heavily fined and sent to prison. Unfortunately, local United Ways across the country are still mistakenly linked with his scandal. All 1,400 United Way groups across the country continue to work independently, improving the lives of people in their own communities.

I heard about some other United Way in the news. Are you a part of that?

No. Occasionally a group somewhere else in the country will draft policies or experience difficulties that attract the attention of national media. Negative national stories related to Boy Scout funding or the troubles of another United Way may surface locally. Please inform us of any troubling stories.

It's important to remember that all 1,400 United Way groups across the country work independently, to ensure an approach to improving people's lives that's appropriate for their own communities.

Locally, we're very proud of the care we take to invest every donation wisely, and to continually monitor the impact of funded programs. Our 18 Cornerstone Partners trust United Way enough to underwrite our operating expenses. We are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of local leaders who set policy and ensure proper fiscal accountability.

How is United Way Dixie affiliated with United Way of America?

United Way Dixie is run by a local, volunteer Board of Directors, which makes decisions on a local basis.

United Way of America is the trade association for over 1,400 local United Ways. From the annual campaign of United Way Dixie, one percent of the campaign is paid in dues to United Way of America. In return, United Way Dixie receives:
