Here are a few issues we are working on in our strategic plan to make a community Impact:

  1. Affordable Health Care

  2. Affordable Housing

  3. Alcohol and substance abuse

Strategic Plan Ideas

To facilitate the Mission of United Way Dixie, the Board of Directors has established the following strategic outlines. Specific goals to meet this strategic outline will be found in the plans and procedures of specific committees of the United Way Dixie. Additionally, this strategic plan assumes the following points:

  1. UWD will discern the needs of the community working with government, non-profit, education, religious and business organizations, by collaborating effort through studies and research and by:
    1. Becoming members of boards on community assessment issues.
    2. Bringing all community assessments together to find out the issues.
    3. Working on those issues to make the needed changes.
    4. Investing each donation on those critical issues.
  2. UWD will raise funds in Washington County by:
    1. Educating our local community through PR.
    2. Starting payroll deduction campaigns with businesses and entities.
    3. Having a leadership dinner.
    4. Consider each donor as an investor in their community.
  3. UWD will be accountable with investors by obtaining outcomes from our partner agencies to measure the results they are making by:
    1. Having all funded agencies send quarterly progress reports.
    2. Obtain outcome measures reports that show the difference.
    3. Measure the results the agency is making in the community
    4. Allocate investments to agencies that are best serving the needs of the community.

United Way Dixie recognizes the need to anticipate and prevent community problems rather than wait to correct problems after they develop. We have conducted a community assessment and have chosen to fund these areas of need.

  1. Helping Children Succeed:

    1. Having after school programs for children
    2. Having mentoring services for children
    3. Supporting children with developmental delays to help them become more independent and receive needed services.
    4. Help youth get a second chance with minor offenses, so they can become better educated not become a juvenile offender in our justice system.
    5. Give children help with their homework so they can do better in school.

  2. Providing the basic needs:

    1. Help with rental assistance so families can stay housed which cost less for all of the community in the long run.
    2. Help with life-skills, parenting, and home owner education, for people to become better knowledgeable and better citizens of our community.
    3. 2-1-1 phone line referral system. Helps Washington County residents on where they can get help where they need it most.
    4. Domestic violence shelter and services. Help those families have Services, support and a place to live while transitioning on their own.
    5. Housing and utilities support.
    6. Help for adults with developmental disabilities with transportation, daycare, job, recreation and housing assistance.

  3. Support Health and Wellness:

    1. Medical help so people can stay well and healthy.
    2. Dental care so people can have teeth pulled and have preventive care and education to take better care of their teeth.
    3. Substance abuse de-tox so people can get off drugs and alcohol so they can become better citizens, build their self esteem and stay out of our justice system.
    4. Mental health, to get needed counseling, tools, and medicine to feel productive, and a part of the community.

  4. Support the Vulnerable and ageing population:

    1. Helping by providing emergency cell phones to dial 9-1-1 to feel safe and get the needed help in an emergency.
    2. Care givers support and resources for families who have a member with Alzheimer’s.
    3. Hospice care for families that don’t have insurance or can’t afford the care.
    4. Daycare facilities for families with a member who has Alzheimer’s or with a developmental disability.

We have found that through our community assessment the critical needs are:

  1. Affordable health care
  2. Affordable housing
  3. Under-employment
  4. Growth
  5. Substance and Alcohol abuse.

We are working closely with the critical housing issues of our community by sitting on the Continuum of Care and Housing Coalition boards to work on solutions for our community.

This strategic plan is a flexible document and may be changed from time to time at the discretion of the sitting Board of Directors or by future Boards.
